About Uttarakhand.Tours

Hi, I’m Jitendra Kumar — and Uttarakhand runs in my blood.

My Story

I was born and raised in Saharanpur, at the starting of Shivalic range and also connected with the Himalayas. While other kids dreamed of cities, I spent my childhood trekking to nearby temples like Shakumbari Devi, listening to my father’s stories about the Pandavas walking these same mountains, and waking up to the sound of the Ganga before I even knew what “spirituality” meant.

For years, I watched tourists come to Uttarakhand with incomplete information — overpaying for taxis, visiting overcrowded spots while missing hidden gems, and sometimes putting themselves at risk because they read outdated advice online. The breaking point came in 2021 when I met a group of pilgrims at Neelkhantha Mahadev who had no idea about visiting uttarakhand’s spritual places like- Char Dham, Panch Kedar, Treks and many more. They had traveled 1000s of kilometers unprepared.

That’s when I decided to build uttarakhand.tours — not as another generic travel blog, but as a living, breathing guide written by someone who actually lives here, explores here, and cares deeply about getting it right.

What I’ve Explored (So You Don’t Have To Guess)

Over the last Four years, I have personally traveled to every district of Uttarakhand. This isn’t desk research. This is me:

  • 🏔️ Completing the Char Dham Yatra three times — once on foot, once by helicopter, and once by road — so I can tell you exactly what each option feels like
  • 🛕 Visiting Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath across different seasons to document real road conditions, weather, and crowd levels
  • 🌲 Trekking to Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib during peak monsoon bloom (and getting caught in a landslide on the way back — lesson learned!)
  • 🏨 Staying in everything from ₹300 GMVN dormitories to ₹8,000 riverside resorts in Rishikesh so I can give honest budget advice
  • 🍛 Eating rajma-chawal at dhabas on the Rishikesh-Badrinath highway and bal mithai from Khim Singh Mohan Singh in Almora to tell you where the real flavors are
  • 🌙 Walking the Lambi Dehar Mines trail after dark (yes, I got spooked) and knocking on the door of the Savoy Hotel to verify legends
  • 📸 Photographing Lansdowne, Chopta, Munsiyari, and Pithoragarh — the places that don’t make it to Instagram but should

I update my guides every season. When a road closes due to a landslide, when a new helipad opens, when a homestay shuts down — I correct it. Because I’m still traveling. Still exploring. Still learning.

Why This Site Exists

Mission: To help every traveler — pilgrim, backpacker, family, or solo wanderer — experience Uttarakhand safely, affordably, and authentically.

What makes us different:

  • First-hand experience: Every guide is based on trips I have personally taken.
  • Updated annually: Char Dham dates, road conditions, and prices are refreshed every season.
  • No sugar-coating: If a place is overrated, I say so. If a trek is dangerous for beginners, I warn you.
  • Local perspective: I work with local guides, homestay owners, and priests to verify facts, not just Google them.
  • Responsible travel: I promote eco-friendly stays, respect temple traditions, and encourage travelers to support local economies.

A Note From Me

Uttarakhand is not just a destination for me. It’s home. When I write about the Chopta Tungnath trek, I’m writing about the rhododendron forest I walked through last spring. When I describe the cold mountain air at Badrinath, I’m remembering how my fingers went numb while changing camera lenses. When I warn you about altitude sickness at Hemkund Sahib, it’s because I’ve seen strong-looking men faint at 4,300 meters.

This site is my way of preserving and sharing the Uttarakhand I know — the one beyond the brochures.

If you’re planning a trip, I hope my guides save you money, keep you safe, and lead you to moments you’ll never forget. If you’re a fellow Uttarakhand lover, I’d love to hear your story too.
