Kainchi Dham and Neem Karoli Baba

The Kainchi Dham ashram was established in 1964, and the man behind this act was the enlightened Neem Karoli Baba. Neem Karoli Baba is possibly the greatest devotee of lord Hanuman. There are numerous anecdotes about Baba and his miracles.

Baba was born as Laxman Narayan Sharma in Firozabad district of Uttar Pradesh in 1900.He was married at the age of 11. Soon Baba left out to attend spiritual knowledge.

History of Kainchi Dham

In 1962, Neem Karoli Baba and other Yogis wanted to bring about a change as they wanted to find a specific place to organise a gas. On Maharaji’s advice, the forest was cleared and a chabutra was constructed.This is where a  yagyashala was built.

In the following years, the Hanuman temple was built over the platform and the Hanuman temple was built over the chabutra. Soon, many people visited the holy place. Baba’s popularity attracted many devotees. Therefore, a proper Hanuman temple was made and  Pran pratishtha was done on June 15.

About Kainchi Dham

The Dham is established close to the Shipra River. It is located in the Kanchi village on Nainital Almora road. Just like other holy ashrams, kainchi too is surrounded by green forests. Its location makes it even more special. The hills in Kumaon village make it a scenic spiritual hub. The Kainchi Dham is not specific to the Hanuman temples only.

1. Nainital

Therefore, you can find various other beautiful lakes in this city. Visitors can also make a trip to the Naini Devi temple in Nainital. 2. Mukteshwar

The ancient Mukteshwar temple is a drive away from Kainchi Dham. If you agree to travel another 50 km then you can have the luxury of visiting a 350-year-old Shiv temple in Mukteshwar. 3. Ranikhet

Ranikhet is located 70 km away from Kainchi Dham. The word ‘ Ranikhet’ means ‘ Queen’s field ‘ in hindi. This is also a hill station. The green fields and thick forests in Ranikhet are quite refreshing. You can also visit the Regimental Central Museum in Ranikhet.

4. Bhimtal

Bhimtal is a very unique place, located just near kainchi Dham. All of us know about the large and sacred Bhimtal lake. What makes the lake even more attractive is a small Island in its centre. The views from this Island are serene. After visiting the lake, you can also visit Bhimeshwar temple.

5. Almora

Almora is a hill town located just near Kainchi Dham. It is known for the Kasar Devi temple. The temple is surrounded by green hills. Every year, thousands of people visit Kasar Devi temple to offer prayers.

Where do you want to stay?

The ashram is declared closed in the winter season. Extremely low temperatures in winter make it unsuitable for tourists to pay a visit. However, if you want to visit in warmer parts of the year, then there are two options.

(1) Outside ashram

Most of the tourists decide to stay outside the ashram and visit the temple during the day. You can find many places to stay in Nainital or Bhowali. Make reservations in either of these two towns and then visit the temple during morning and evening arati

(2) Outside ashram

Tourists are required to inform the authorities of the ashram if they want to stay inside the ashram. Officially, you have to write to the manager and produce these three :

• Letter of introduction
• picture of yourself
• reference note from the older devotees

Even after all these procedures, you can stay only 3 days at the ashram
